Questions About Lumineers® - Roseville Porcelain Veneers

Sacramento, Roseville, Rocklin, Folsom, and Citrus Heights, California

What are Lumineers®?

Lumineers® are an alternative type of porcelain veneers that are extremely thin – around 0.2 millimeters – allowing them to be placed with little to no reduction of your natural tooth structure. Because of this, the Lumineers procedure does not require the use of numbing shots, and you will not need to use temporary veneers before your final veneers are applied. This streamlines the process of transforming your smile.

Are Lumineers® permanent?

Only if you want them to be. If you decide you no longer want them in the future, Lumineers can be removed, as long as your teeth were not altered when the Lumineers were originally placed. Otherwise, Lumineers will provide you with a beautiful smile for many years to come. Cerinate, the company that makes Lumineers, provides patients with a five-year warranty. However, testing has shown that with proper care, Lumineers can last for up to 20 years.

How long does it take to place Lumineers®?

The Lumineers placement process should only require two office visits. During the first visit, an impression of your teeth will be taken so we can design the Lumineers to match your smile. The actual placement of the Lumineers occurs on your second visit, and will take no more than an hour.

What are the limitations of Lumineers®?

In order to be a candidate for Lumineers, you must have teeth that are already fairly straight, and do not have dark stains. The extra-thin layer of porcelain is translucent, meaning it will allow the existing color of your teeth to show through. Lumineers do not hide discoloration or stains as well as a regular porcelain veneer.

Additionally, Lumineers should not be placed on a patient with no space between the top and bottom rows of their teeth. This can change your biting patterns, potentially causing your teeth – and even your jaw alignment – to shift.

During a personal consultation, Dr. Miller can assess your bite, your tooth structure, and the severity of any staining to determine whether or not Lumineers are right for you.
