Invisalign

Sacramento, Roseville, Rocklin, Folsom, and Citrus Heights, California

A new alternative to braces, Invisalign is the invisible way to straighten your teeth. This treatment option, which hit the market in the year 2000, is a series of clear, custom fit aligners that snap on to your teeth and are easily removed. If you want straight teeth, but do not want to wait years with metal orthodontics, Invisalign can get the job done in about nine to 15 months.

How it works

Dr. Miller will create customized aligners designed to move your particular teeth. You will wear each aligner for about two weeks, only removing it to eat, drink, brush and floss. With each aligner, your teeth will move slowly until your ideal smile is achieved. After this procedure is complete, you will probably have to wear a retainer at night so that your new smile stays that way.

Besides the mentioned benefits other advantages of Invisalign include:

  • The ability to view your own virtual treatment plan when you start, so you can see how your straight teeth will be.
  • The aligners are doing multiple tooth movements simultaneously, so your treatment is completed in half the time.
  • May help reduce the risk of cavities and gum disease when compared to wire braces that can trap plaque and food
  • No metal means more comfort. Wireless also means you spend less time in the dentist’s chair, getting adjusted.
  • You only visit the dentist once every six weeks

It is important to understand that Invisalign is not recommended for children under 16 years old, nor if you have severe bite problems. Invisalign is best for those whose teeth are slightly crooked or gapped.

Invisible braces

Another alternative to conventional metal braces are clear ceramic brackets or invisible braces. Made of composite materials, they are very strong and typically do not stain. Many adults prefer these because the clear brackets “blend in” with your teeth, so they are less obvious than traditional metal braces.

The tiny rubber bands, called ligatures, which hold the arch wire on to the ceramic brackets are usually white or clear. While the actual brackets do not stain, these rubber bands can. But this is not often a problem unless you eat a great deal of curry, drink a lot of black coffee or smoke.

If you have a significant bite problem, or if you teeth are too crooked for Invisalign, clear, or invisible, braces are a great alternative to metal braces.
