Dentures/Partials
Sacramento, Roseville, Rocklin, Folsom, and Citrus Heights, California
Advances in technology have made today’s dentures more natural looking and more secure than ever before. If you are missing teeth, you have several different options from which to choose.
There are two main types of dentures: full and partial. Dr. Miller can help you determine what is right for you depending on:
- How many teeth you need replaced
- Where in your mouth they are missing
- How much you want to spend
Dentures
Complete dentures are used when you have no teeth remaining. The replacement teeth are made out of prefabricated acrylic, which comes in various shapes, shades and sizes. The material is processed into a custom-made acrylic base that is designed to comfortably fit your mouth’s gum tissue. The manufacture of a personalized denture takes into consideration the shape of your jaw line and your other facial features to make your smile as natural looking as possible.
There are several different types of full dentures:
- Standard dentures—these are designed for patients who are missing all teeth. The top denture is held in place by suction and uses your underlying tissue for stability. Standard dentures do indeed comfortably and function well, though they are constructed using physiological averages on a non-adjustable machine.
- Temporary dentures—after your problematic natural teeth are removed, a temporary, prefabricated denture is inserted over your empty sockets. This temporary denture acts like a band-aid to reduce pain and hold your mouth in place while your standard or other type of denture is being created.
- Cu-Sil dentures—this denture is created with one or more holes to allow a few of your remaining natural teeth to stick out without impeding the suction that holds the denture in your mouth.
- Overdentures—these is one or more removable replacement teeth that is inserted over the remnants of your natural teeth. The overdenture is common used if you have had a root canal. Your crowns may be cut off at gum line and a removable overdenture is placed over the stumps.
- Implant-retained dentures—these permanent dentures are secured into your mouth with a titanium screw, drilled into your bone. The screw provides a way for a replacement tooth, such as a porcelain crown, to be attached. It is also a way to better secure a denture.
Partial dentures
If you are missing just a few teeth scattered over your upper or lower arch, or if you have at least two teeth on either sides of the arch, you could be a candidate for a removable partial denture. This cost-effective method is used to bridge the gap created by your missing teeth. Removable partial dentures act as a spacer to keep your remaining teeth from shifting. These dentures are designed so that chewing can be distributed evenly over all your remaining teeth and soft tissues. Removable partial dentures come in various forms. You and Dr. Miller will determine which is right for you, depending on the number of teeth you missing, how strong your partial denture needs to be, and what your aesthetic desires are.
